I would have been very cautious about trying it since I would have thought ethylene is more likely to inhibit flowering then encourage it. An aging banana or apple certainly works in inducing flowering in bromeliads (and was the precursor of an ethylene (usually ethrel) treatment that is pretty standard commercial practice now to time a crop’s flowering), as many supermarkets who had the flower section next to the produce department found, when their flowers aged and died prematurely.
