Dear Asit,
If possible try to find a Jamaican grocery and ask for 'red co co', I will
be very interested to compare this to the ones being imported from Costa
Rica and Guatemala in Cen. America, which also have a red 'tinge' of color
but to a much lesser extent than the Jamaican 'red co co'. The Cen.
AMerican may be the 'malanga' lilac', and may be different from both the
Jamaican form/species/var., and from the 'malanga blanca'. I am certain
that in the long term all this growing information will prove invaluable to
Dr.Eduardo Goncalves in his research.
If 'push comes to shove' let me know and I will send you a couple 'red co
co' rhizomes.

That what I had started to do last fall. I bought every kind of
tuber that I could buy from Supermarkets, Farmer's Markets, Flea
Markets and then I had planted them after tagging the pot. I
retained the names given by the stores until you experts can
verify from the photos later on. I had been taking photos as
they are growing. So far I have,
Eddoe
Alocasia Macrorrhiza
Malanga "Lila"
Malanga "Blanca"
Colocasia Esculenta
Malanga "Islena"
Alocasia indica
