state of the art PC, downloads of complete low resolution 2001 NLs are
inexorably slow, those of high resolution impossible.
When you mention low/high resolution, you must mean the embedded
photos, right?
The solution: take the photos out of the on-line edition and
replace with hyperlinks or menus for selecting desired size &
resolution. Perhaps put in small thumbnails (64x48 pixels) for the
user to be able to decide whether or not to download each photo.
Most of the contemporary word processing programs will let you
generate both PDF and HTML from the master text. 12 pages of
pure-text PDF/HTML should load in well under a minute over a 28.8
line. In FrameMaker, it should be possible to generate the on-line
editions and the version for the typesetter with very little
additional effort on the part of the newsletter editor.
