Dear Julius,
As far as I know, ocumo is the name of Xanthosoma plants in Venezuela.
George Bunting cite this name in his treatment of the Venezuelan
aroids(Bunting, 1979, Sinopsis de las Araceae de Venezuela, Rev. Fac. Agron.
Maracay, 10(1-4):139-290), but I have also seen this name elsewhere. It is
usually used for Xanthosoma sagittifolium, but you will also find the name
"ocumo chino" (or chinese "ocumo") for Colocasia esculenta. Unfortunately, I
do not know the origin of the name.
Very best wishes,
Eduardo.
