Ah, now we are asking the right questions! If we can establish this, then we will have solved one of the biggest mysteries of growing this species. It may be that we must grow bromeliads in order to grow leal-costae -- plant it in a big bromeliad tank, to mimic its wild state. Of commonly-cultivated bromeliads, Aechmea comes to mind as large enough to grow other plants in.
