Peter,
are the "complexes" you mention differentiated by traditional taxonomy or are molecular methods involved?
Thx for the information!
Bernhard.

Species of the eburneus complex - which includes, apart from eburneus, brachyphyllus, juliae, niahensis, and julaihii, along with another maybe two new species, have large fruits containing a single large ellipsoid seed. The complex is not related to titanum, nor to the the borneensis complex, which includes hewittii.

This is ABSOLUTELY A. eburneus. I collected these seeds, from the Type locality. Seed can reach up to 2.5 cm long and 1 cm wide. One fruit has one seed.

Aroiders, esp. Amorphophallus-experts, an Italian aroider friend purchased seeds of A. eburneus from malesiana.com. The seeds are said to be collected by Peter Boyce, so I guess the information and spec is reliable. After getting the seeds we are puzzled by the size, because we expected the seeds to be smaller from a spec that does not grow that big. We thought that the size would rather be like seeds from hewittii. They are about the size of a large peanut ( 1 x 3 cm) and even slightly bigger than a batch of titanum I germinate at the moment. (See attached picture) On the other hand Alan Galloway shows a picture of a seed of a similar size that we got (probably the same batch). http://www4.ncsu.edu/~alan/plants/aroids/amorphophallus/eburneus/1.html And the picture in the genera list of the aroid.org might suggest that eburneus does not yield a high number of seeds and that they might be indeed so big. http://www.aroid.org/genera/serveimage.php?key=1440 A clear difference between titanum and the purchased eburneues seems to be that the bud in titanum grows rather at the side of the seed while it grows out of the end/tip in eburneus.(see picture) Would anyone know more about the size of eburneus seeds or if my obsevation about the location of the first bud is right? Looking forward to any comment.... Happy growing, Bernhard.
