Many Alocasia plants when they are cultivated under strong light, the underside of the leaves becomes purple or brown and the leaves look darker. 'Polly' has one of the darkest leaves from cultivated Alocasia plants, just like A. reginula known in trade as A. This week at a local greenhouse I found that they had some there tagged "Black Polly" that were nothing like the EA one. It was more like a lauterbachii with a very dark cast to it. Has anyone seen this new appearance in the trade? EA stopped selling Amazonica everywhere and now you may be hard-pressed to find one at all in any box store. Only the blacker one, now someone has co opted the name for yet another plant. I just call them "trade names".
