On that note, this also explains certain restrictions
against photographing in certain places. The example that
comes to mind is Birch Aquarium at Scripps, in San Diego.
At the door, they specify that you are welcome to take
pictures only for non-commercial purposes. The reason is
just as has been stated: to sell a photo taken there would
in fact be making money from their property. Birch Aquarium
has a beautiful exhibit of a living kelp forest, which no
doubt costs them big bucks to maintain; to sell a photo of
it without their permission would be parasitic, just like
the aforementioned paparazzi.
