USDA SEEKS INPUT ON AMENDING IMPORTED SEED REGULATIONS
WASHINGTON, Oct. 2, 1996--The U.S. Department of Agriculture proposed
today to allow U.S. companies that import seed for cleaning or
processing to
enter into compliance agreements with the Animal and Plant Health
Inspection
Service.
Under the Federal Seed Act, USDA requires that all shipments of
agricultural and
vegetable seeds be labeled correctly and tested for the presence of
certain
noxious weeds as a condition of entry into the United States.
