Since everyone is mentioning Chernobyl, I thought I would post a website that I found utterly fascinating describing a person's motorcycle ride through Chernobyl. Though these don't use radiation as energy sources but if you place these in a Cobalt-60 load that you are going to gamma irradiate and if this stuff doesn' t grow almost anything other micro-organism is assured to be destroyed.
