From: "Julius Boos" ju-bo at msn.com> on 2006.09.08 at 22:45:28(14578)
Dear IAS members and friends,
I have only JUST got wind of what I believe is a monumental news item to us
aroid growers and collectors, a most important opportunity to aquire one of
the, if not THE largest species of Philodendron known, so I am rushing to
get the news out to all who will be interested!! Further information will
most probably be available soon on the IAS website!
A single plant (yes, only ONE!) of this GIANT entity (its name says it all,
"Philodendron maximum"!) donated to us by an anonymous member, will be
auctioned off during the IAS show and sale at Fairchild Gardens in Miami on
the 16 th of this month! This species was collected years ago in Amazonian
Ecuador, a very few plants have been in kept in cultivation, but none have
ever been offered for sale or were available till now! The 'blurb' (copied
below this post) says it all, MAN what a plant! A mere juvinile, but with
leaves 3 ft., yes I said 3 ft. long, and already sporting a 6 ft. spread!
WOW! As an adult, it will exibit leaves more than 6 ft. long by 3 ft.
wide, and a 12 ft. spread!!! MERCY!!
I HOPE that whoever is in charge of the auction may let all of us know IF
this ONE plant may be available for bids by e-mail, will someone let us know
ASAP???

May the best man (bidder!) win!! (wear your 'depends' while viewing this
plant!) See you all soon in Miami!
Julius Boos,
WPB, FLORIDA (where we grow the BIG ones!)
Philodendron maximum.
This is first release of the largest leaf philodendron in the world and
most likely the universe! Everyone that has seen it (D.B., E.O., B.W.,
A.S...) wants it. It is a robust climber with leaf blades up to 76 inches
long, 36 inches wide and a spread of over 12 feet. This plant is not
suitable for terrariums or coffee tables.
WARNING: This plant has been know to cause botanical orgasms.
The auction plant is in a 17" pot, has 3 foot long leaves and a 6+ foot
spread.<<
