Subject: [Gphiles] A lotta hot air in Florida!
I'm sure that we were all glad to hear that Carol and the Tampa Bay
gesneriad members were spared the brunt of Hurricane Charley but some of
you may be concerned about friends further South. I have heard that
Dennis Cathcart at Tropiflora in Sarasota had no damage, although they
removed the plastic from all their greenhouses and evacuated their
offices in preparation. Melissa McDowell had no damage, further south
in Sarasota. Linda Massey, who lives in North Port, not far from Port
Charlotte evacuated to an inland motel with her mother AND her
Amorphophallus titanum (I hope it was a three bedroom suite!). Their
mobile home was not damaged. And John Banta, an Aroid friend who grows
"all exotic plants" was safe in Fort Meyers.
Now, if we can survive the Republican National Convention in NYC ...
there is hope!
