Although we have the import permit and collect globally, it will be a benefit to both ends when dealing just with berries. USDA's APHIS has proposed allowing the importation of small amounts of seed with permits instead of phytosanitary certificates. APHIS would issue permits that specify the import conditions for eligible seed shipments. Seed would be sent to an APHIS plant inspection station to ensure compliance with the permit conditions. These changes would make it easier for individual importers, horticultural societies, arboreta and small businesses that have previously had difficulty obtaining phytosanitary certificates from the country of origin.
