They all seem to lighten when they are fully open. One that didn't was Big Bucky that bloomed in Wisconsin in 2001 (only a few weeks after Mr. Stinky). That spadix stayed a very dark purple, I'll send you a photo. +More But I agree- it is curious! Julius knows for sure but I think all these bloomers came from seed distributed by the late Dr. James Symon. We owe him a huge debt! Susan
