Hi Steve
In response to your general request, I live in Rotorua, New Zealand,
have a small mixed collection of aroids (garden and greenhouse) in
an area with a temperate but cool climate (1000 feet ASL.) I don't
belong to the IAS - there are only so many plant societies one can
afford to belong to. Other plant interests include orchids, gesneriads,
hoyas, ferns, begonias, clivias, magnolias etc etc. I enjoy reading the
aroid list, although much of it relates to plants that aren't available
here (we have hyperneurotic biosecurity and plant quarantine
regulations).
Regards
Nick Miller

By the way to those that don't know,Brian is a great aroid grower and sells many, many species andhybrids. You can find his website here: http://www.briansbotanicals.net/index2.html
You'll be hearing more about Brian on this forum shortly! Watch forit. And by the way Brian, I think I'm on the track of one of thePhilodendron without a name you sent last year. We'll talk about itsoon!
I am really enjoying reading all the notes telling us about yourselvesand what you grow. It is my belief we all become better growers whenwe learn to lean on each other. So knowing a bit more about you isgreat! Please keep on responding because I am copying every single oneto take to the show in Miami as a part of my presentation to theboard.
Several have written to me privately and I am making careful notes onall the things you have requested as well as the very few complaints. We want you to love being a part of the IAS so if you don't feelcomfortable posting everything you'd like to say here, send it to me. I'll write back ASAP!
Keep 'em coming!

Dear Steve,
Aloha.
I live in Hawaii.
The IAS can serve me personally by assembling all enthusiasts of Araceae together. I love the scientific inquiry into the Family. We have only scratched the surface and there is so much more to learn. I believe the IAS should continue to publish Aroidiana as a benefit to the membership and that a seed and pollen bank for the continental US be set up. The IAS could keep us informed on conservation issues that impact Araceae. I would like to see more specialist Araceae scientists as well as ecologists, join the IAS. I would also like to see a multitude of amateur enthusiasts join as well as specialist horticulturists. The IAS must provide incentives for both groups as well as common ground to interact.
I have been fortunate to have traveled to Aroid habitats. I live in Hawaii, where the culture of Kalo, or taro, is a main staple for the Hawaiians. I specialize in Philodendron subgenus Meconostigma, but, I love to learn about all aroids. Other genera that I grow include Anthurium, Schismatoglottis, Homalomena, Aglaonema, Colocasia, Alocasia, Amorphophallus, Monstera, etc. I also love to eat the edible aroids and learn about the ethnobotany of these plants. I have no boundaries. The IAS has been a unique and valuable research and entertainment source for me. I have met great friends as a result of the IAS and perhaps that is the best benefit of all.
Aloha,
Leland

Sherry, there are lots of photos onthe IAS site but to find a few you need to know a trick I learned fromAlbert.
Look up A REVISION OF PHILODENDRON SUBGENUS PHILODENDRON (ARACEAE) OFCENTRAL AMERICA
on any search engine. You'll be led directly to the IAS site. Gothrough it page by page (you might learn something new along the way)but you'll often find highlighted links to plant treatments by Dr.Croat. Click on the link and frequently you'll find photos. They areof adult plants but you might find a clue to some of what you areseeking. There is another page link for Anthurium and I'lllook that one up as well.
I use this link almost every single day and have downloaded the entire141 pages to a PDF file so I can search it as needed.

dream a reality, Amazonia, Brazil.
Don't currently grow any Aroids, but I follow the Aroid
research. More interested in natural habitats than
horticultural settings.

Hot and heavy into Anthurium species!
Some Aglaonema
Some Homalomena
and a few Philodendron
I understand the need to have the Newsletter sent via email, but I really miss receiving it in the mail.
A seed bank would be nice, but next to impossible. Maybe members could list what they had becoming available and trade that way.
I met a great friend who lives in France through trading seeds, and now have some different Anthurium species to show from our exchanges.

I have a proposal to make to the International Aroid Society board of directors in September and would enjoy feedback from all that subscribe to Aroid l. Please don't think you shouldn't respond just because you haven't joined the IAS.........yet. Part of the proposal is to hopefully give you more reasons to want to join but no one is going to be calling you or flooding your inbox with mail!
Would everyone receiving these posts today hit "reply" right now and tell us what state or country you live in? If you are willing, please also tell us what genera of Araceae you enjoy growing and if you have specific suggestions as to how the IAS can serve you personally please add a brief note.
If nothing else, please let us know what part of the U.S. or world is your home.
Thanks to all and please do consider joining your fellow aroiders on September 19 and 20 at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, FL! There will be lots of aroids to peruse and take home, great presentations, a wonderful tropical garden with a living rain forest to explore and great food at the Saturday night dinner! Besides, Dr. Croat does great presentations!
Good aroid growing to all of you!

Hot and heavy into Anthurium species!
Some Aglaonema
Some Homalomena
and a few Philodendron
I understand the need to have theNewsletter sent via email, but I really miss receiving it in the mail.
A seed bank would be nice, but nextto impossible. Maybe members could list what they had becomingavailable and trade that way.
I met a great friend who lives inFrance through trading seeds, and now have some different Anthuriumspecies to show from our exchanges.

Subject:[Aroid-l] Enjoy Aroid l? Please tell us where you are!
I have a proposal to make to theInternational Aroid Society board of directors in September and wouldenjoy feedback from all that subscribe to Aroid l. Please don't thinkyou shouldn't respond just because you haven't joined theIAS.........yet. Part of the proposal is to hopefully give you morereasons to want to join but no one is going to be calling you orflooding your inbox with mail!
Would everyone receiving these posts today hit "reply" rightnow and tell us what state or country you live in? If youare willing, please also tell us what genera of Araceae you enjoygrowing and if you have specific suggestions as to how the IAS canserve you personally please add a brief note.
If nothing else, please let us know what part of the U.S. or world isyour home.
Thanks to all and please do consider joining your fellow aroiders onSeptember 19 and 20 at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Miami, FL! There will be lots of aroids to peruse and take home, greatpresentations, a wonderful tropical garden with a living rain forest toexplore and great food at the Saturday night dinner! Besides, Dr.Croat does great presentations!
Good aroid growing to all of you!

I'm Ferenc Lengyel, city: Pιcs, country: Hungary (Middle-Europe), USDA zo ne 7.
Interested in all genera of Araceae but Philodendrons, Monsteras and Anthur iums are my
favourites. I love other Jungle plants too. I prefer species over cultivars , but they are near
impossible to get them here. A love growing plants from seeds and I have se edlings of some
other exotic plants (Cannonball tree, Eugenias,...).
It might be strange, as is is a very common house plant, but one of my favo urites is
Monstera deliciosa.
Regards
Ferenc

Hi,
apparently I missed the "right now" -- Sorry.
I'm from Vienna, Austria.
Enjoing all esspecially Amorphophallus, helicodiceros muscivorus
(allthough I killed all my bulbs *sigh*), symplocarpus foetidus.
Also I messed around with aquatic aroids.
Since I have no garden, limited space and limited time. It's sometimes
quite hard and the reason I lost so many :-(
Best experience until now are seedlings. Next time I should give more
away ...
