  Lasia pollination
From: Adam Black epiphyte1 at earthlink.net> on 2003.03.29 at 14:52:17(10072)
Hello,

My Lasia spinosa is sending up three inflorescenses right now, and I
would like to try to get some seed. I have successfully pollinated many
Anthuriums species before, and wonder if it is at all similar to that.
can't recall ever seeing the spathe opening wide enough for easy access
to the spadix. I seem to recall on some other aroid species the need to
cut a portion of the spathe to easily pollinate the plant. Any help
would be appreciated.

Dear Adam,

Yes, use the same method as in Anthurium. You may have to cut the spathe,
but the spathe does open a cup-shaped area when the female and male flowers
are 'ready'. Good luck.
Here in WPB, Florida the flowers are either pollinated by local bugs or they
produce LOTS of fruit without pollination.
