Bracteoles of Dracontium are the bracts subtending the peduncle of the inflorescence. As in the case of the cataphylls, the innermost bracteole is the longest one ( Fig. 38 ) , varying from whitish pink to dark brown and usually pointed apically. The length of the longest bracteole relative to the peduncle varies among species. It ranges from obscure covering the very base of the peduncle (D. plowmanii, ( Fig. 39 ) to longer than the peduncle and covering the base of the spathe (D. prancei, ( Fig. 40 ). The bracteoles usually rot away soon after anthesis ( Fig. 41 ).
