The flowering of A. albispathus |

Three tubers, each about 4 inches tall, have each put up an inflorescence. I tried to hand pollinate them, but the attempt has failed this year.

The first bloom opened in the last week of July.

From close distance, the spathe is not as white, as the name would have you believe.
There is some distinct veining and spotting.

This is not a very good attempt at a closeup of the female flowers. A better one will appear here next year.

This is one of socially acceptable amorphophalli, and there is no reason not to stick your nose into a flower. The smell is anise-like, with some lighly musty overtones.
