the 13th International Aroid Conference in Munich, Germany, July 27–29, 2020.
______________________________________________________________
We are pleased to announce that the
International Aroid Society Inc. (IAS) has very generously set aside funds to
support up to six student grants, each of up to US$2500, to enable attendance
at the 13th International Aroid Conference in Munich, Germany, July 27–29 2020.
Eligibility: applicants must be —
• Enrolled in Masters (by research) or
Doctoral programs, and working primarily on Araceae. [Consideration may also be
given to such applicants who have recently graduated but who are not yet
in full time employment.]
• Domiciled in a developing country,
even if enrolled at a University in a ‘developed’ country.
• Proposing to present a paper or poster
at the conference. The grants are not available simply for attendance.
Applications: should be submitted by email to xiiiinteraroidmunich@gmail.com
before
29th February 2020, be written in English or Spanish, and include the following
—
• A short (no more than half a page)
covering letter explaining how the applicant expects to benefit from attending.
• An abstract (in English, or if in
Spanish then with an English translation) of the oral presentation or poster
s/he proposes to give at the conference.
• Itemised costing of air travel and
accommodation for the conference period.
• The applicant’s concise CV — not
exceeding one page.
• A letter from the applicant’s academic
supervisor or head of department confirming the applicant’s status as a
graduate student.
Notes:
• Questions concerning applying should
be directed to xiiiinteraroidmunich@gmail.com
• Applicants will be advised of the
results of their applications before the end of March 2020.
•
Successful applicants will be required to commit in writing
to submitting a paper, in English, to the International Aroid Society’s journal
Aroideana on a topic related to their presentation within 24 months of
receiving the grant.
•
IAS reserves the right to make fewer than six grants in the
event that insufficient applications of appropriate merit are received.
• IAS will not accept responsibility for
loss or injury incurred as a result of successful applicants travelling to and
from and attending the conference, and will expect reimbursement of the full
grant in the event a successful applicant does not attend for whatever reason.
Therefore, successful applicants will be expected to take out suitable travel
insurance, the cost of which may not come out of
the grant.
