Aroiders,
would someone know the spec of the Philodendron I found in a local garden centre?
I was quite puzzled since the leaf reminded me somehow of Sauromatum venosum.....
Curious, Bernhard.

Thanks to Betsy, Tony and LariAnn for the ID ! BTW, they ask 129 or 149 € (can't remember it exactly) for the plant what is unfortunately beyond my possibilities.... :-( Anyway, a wonderful plant...
Happy growing, Bernhard.

Great meconostigma Philo. These plants are seed grown plants sent to us by Joep Moonen in French Guiana. Just arrived! These are seed grown plants. Awesome opportunity to grow this way cool aroid. P. goeldii makes a great houseplant or is great grown outside in the garden. Should be able to grow outside unprotected up to zone 9 once mature. Looks more like a sheffelera than a philodendron. The plants we have right now have about 6" long leaves, and are about 12-14" tall.

It is without a doubt Philodendron goeldii.
Now for some history press rewind... keep pressing. I worked at a
nursery named Fantastic Gardens from 1972-1977. We had a plant of
Thaumatophyllum spruceanum and was told it was one of a few in
cultivation. Our plant never flowered. I lusted for this plant and
about two years later had the joy of planting seed of what had now
become Philodendron goeldii. The seed probably came from Bob Wilson
at Las Cruces Botanical Gardens in Costa Rica. The specie itself is
stunning, The hybrids it has produced are amazing. Now that I'm all
stirred up I might bring one to the Aroid Show.

Thanks for that hint, Betsy !
As mentioned in my pm to you, I might wait some time if the garden centre reduces the price.
They often do so, when a plant stays too long; if they reduce it to 25 %, it is probably easier to get it that way instead of ordering it from the US - I am located in Lower Saxony, Germany......
Cheers, Bernhard.

Thanks to Betsy, Tony and LariAnn for the ID !
BTW, they ask 129 or 149 € (can't remember it exactly) for the plant what is unfortunately beyond my possibilities.... :-(
Anyway, a wonderful plant...
Happy growing,
Bernhard.

Aroiders,
would someone know the spec of the Philodendron I found in a local garden centre?
I was quite puzzled since the leaf reminded me somehow of Sauromatum venosum.....
Curious, Bernhard.

Yep, Bernard, I screwed up. It was Graziella Barroso who named that species. Thanks for the correction.

Philodendron goeldii

Great meconostigma Philo. These plants are seed grown plants sent to us by Joep Moonen in French Guiana. Just arrived! These are seed grown plants. Awesome opportunity to grow this way cool aroid. P. goeldii makes a great houseplant or is great grown outside in the garden. Should be able to grow outside unprotected up to zone 9 once mature. Looks more like a sheffelera than a philodendron. The plants we have right now have about 6" long leaves, and are about 12-14" tall.
