  Croat's newsletter article
From: Jason Hernandez <jason.hernandez74 at yahoo.com> on 2013.03.31 at 12:48:01(22781)
As always, the exciting adventures of Tom Croat made for a great read. I noticed that he was just a bit north of where I was in Ecuador, and just a month later. I hope that, should there be anymore expeditions to the same general region, he will consider collecting Jama-Coaque Reserve. Know the director there would love to have the flora documented.

It is in Manabí Province, between Pedernales and Canoa, but inland. The only road access is through a small village called Camarones (not the same Camarones as the one near Esmeraldas); from Aroid-poor dry forest at the coast, the route transitions to tropical moist forest at the Reserve entrance, and submontane cloud forest at the peaks of the Jama-Coaque Mountains. The same year as your expedition, I spent August and September there; I wrote a piece for the IAS Newsletter about it, but I don't remember whether it was published. I had pictures, taken on the Reserve's camera, but the camera was stolen before they could be downloaded, so none made it into my article :( The reserve is owned by Third Millennium Alliance href="http://www.3malliance.org/index.php?id=436">http://www.3malliance.org/index.php?id=436
