  Unidentified plant
From: santoury at aol.com on 2011.01.14 at 20:16:50(21748)
Guys,

I'm in mourning over Steve's passing, and am thankful, grateful, that I had the opportunity to meet him, and write back and forth with him for a few precious moments, at the last IAS show in Miami. I'm wondering if there are any plants that were some kind of namesake for him? I'd like to have something in my plant house that I can dedicate to him.

On a completely different note, I'm wondering if somebody can identify this newly acquired succulent - possibly a Dasylirion of some kind?

Best to all, and to Steve,

Jude

Jude-

There have not been any plants named for Steve Lucas to date. As you probably know, Steve specifically loved the Philodendron and Anthurium species from the American tropics,
so any of those (and there are many) would be a fitting dedication in your plant collection.

Take care-

I feel AWFUL about Steve Lucas, whose death comes close on the heels of
another plant buddy.

as for that plant, i do not know what it is but i do know one thing,
which is that I really want it something fierce. the flared leaf bases
are not what I have seen on the few dasylirions which I have examined. I
am far from an expert, however.

That plant looks exactly like one of my
Agaves, but the bloody tag has gone missing so I can't give you a
species name.

It looks like Agave geminiflora.

Guys,

It seems like possibly an Agave stricta, however I cannot find any photos anywhere that show the flared leaf bases, nor does A. stricta have very long leaves. The leaves are almost 2 feet tall. I don't mean to be a doubter, but I'd really like to know what this dang thing is!

She's been pretty easy to handle, actually - haven't gotten hurt yet!

Best, Jude
