Subject: Re: [Aroid-l] Philodendron meliononi or is it melinonii ?
Mélinon was a French botanist who collected in French Guiana
between 1862 and 1865 according to the British Museum site dealing with
botanical authors. Tropicos correctly uses the name Philodendron melinonii for
this species.
Change of topic (and please note that I am not referring to these
two alternative spellings offered here). This may be a time to comment on
Tropicos as a source of information. They are very good on names (no one is
infallible) but only set out to list all the names that have been used – in the
tradition of Index Kewensis - so cannot be used to verify which of several
synonyms is to be adopted. This comment is irrelevant to the question, but is
something to bear in mind if looking for an authentication of a name where two
synonyms are floating around.
