Colocasia 'Excalibur'
|
From: Eric Schmidt leu242 at yahoo.com> on 2006.10.19 at 20:50:07(14744)
Has anyone determined what species Colocasia
'Excalibur' is ? Is it even Colocasia? I had heard
speculation that it might even be a Caladium. Here is
a photo of one growing here;

Difficult to say what it is except that it is NOT a Colocasia; my money
would be on Xanthosoma...

Eric, when I bought mine, which appeared to be from tissue culture material,
it was sold as a Caladium, and to me it looks like that genus, rather than
Colocasia. There is are two varieties of Excalibur with different leaf
colors, altho the name on both is Excalibur. I bought one of each.

It is a Caladium picturatum species. I believe it originated out of the
collection from Fairchild when Craig Allen was their he had it. Julius
would be the expert but I am sure it is Caladium.
