Aroid identity and pond scum in NJ?
|
From: kari_beard at rimlife.com on 2005.07.28 at 15:07:21(13243)
Good morning to all -
Anyone know what species this East Coast aroid is, and also if the 'pond
scum' I found is an aroid?

Sincerely,
Kari

Pond scum? do you mean Pistia stratiotes, the only floating aroid?

Hello ari,
Please try for a close-up pic. of a bloom---this may be scary stuff, as I
was about to say Peltandra virginica (it probably is this), BUT on a second
look, the 'turned-up' rear lobes on the leaf tickled my memory banks, an
Arfican aroid, Anubias sp. popped up, the bloom would be a sure-fire way to
ID these beautiful plants!

To make things worse: all Lemnaceae are Araceae these days and so Pistia is
no longer the only floating aroid...........
Cheerio,
Wilbert

If you are doubtful, send the photos to the ID Center.
