By now most everyone has heard of the devastating earthquake/tsunami
that struck south and southeast Asia Sunday morning. Phuket Island, off
the southwestern coast of Thailand suffered quite a bit of damage. One of
our International Aroid Society members lives on Puket Island, Annop
Ongsakul.

I spoke with his sister earlier this evening and she said that Annop and his
family are OK. For those aroiders and ginger collectors that know
and correspond with Annop, it will probably be some time before he
has email working again.

Helen Kennedy and Fred GAnder are there too researching local flora as guests of the botanicaql garden. We too have had no word about them but this am's paper mentiones the waves hit early in the am which might have been a blessing . We await word from them all.
