Herps and aroids/eddoes

Well, this is getting far off the topic!
I met Julius Boos in my pre-aroid days when I was in the herp club in
WestPalmBeach. I have 2 red footed tortoises. Uh, just to mention aroids,
they don't eat any of mine but like to hide under the large leaves.
My eddoe from the grocery store developed huge leaves when planted out this
year (somewhat of an accomplishment in Wisconsin's short growing season).
They are almost 3 ft long and beautiful, especially for a low-cost bulb~!

. I am a
big reptile man, and have gotten through breeding some very fine greentree
pythons this year and was able to hatch out, two babies from the clutch.

In my 20's I was a hardcore snake enthusiast. I have always been interested
in animals and plants that not many around me were familiar with. Being
that most of these animals were tropical by nature, it has evolved nicely
into my passion for tropical plants. I only have a cast off Iguana that
summers in a gazebo like cage in the garden. It winters in a converted
closet in the house.
I had a Ball python that I had fro 20 years that just recently died. Sounds
like love for plants and herps is not that unusual.

Harry,
You're quite right. I bred and raised green anacondas. The breeding female
died at 27 years old of congestive heart failure; she had an
ovario-hysterectomy at 25 years of age. I now restrict my love of animals to
30 aquaria; much easier to care for!

Jim and Harry,
It MUST be common, I started off w/ snakes and other herps. as a VERY young
boy, then on to beetles, scorpions and THEN plants, Aristolochias at first
then AROIDS (Caladiums at first) and other 'strange' plant families!
My last snake was a T`dadian rainbow boa named 'Iris' (the spanish word for
a rainbow is 'Arco Iris", or Iris' bow'. Lent her on a breeding loan a
few years ago, never heard a word from the guy who moved out of state!
