  Tricosanthes cucumerina
From: catread40 at webtv.net (Cathy Zelonis) on 2001.07.27 at 19:29:07(7156)
I realize that this is not an aroid, but some of you who like
beautiful, exotic and unusual flowers might know where I can get seeds
for this plant. It is commonly known as a snake gourd. I ordered seeds
from a couple gourd dealers under the name of snake gourd, but I was
sent seeds for the Lagenaria siceraria, the Italian cucuzzi, the
popular, edible cucurbit. The dealers don't have seeds for Tricosanthes
c.(This is an excellent argument for botanical names!) If you are
interested in seeing this exotic flower, there is a picture of it on
page 58 of The Gourd Book by Charles B. Heiser, Jr. It originated in
Asia. Does anyone have seeds or know where I can get some?

Dear ???;
Chiltern Seeds, Bortree Stile, Ulverston, Cumbria LA12 7PB, England, Tel: 44
1229 581137 intrnational, www.chilternseeds.co.uk, list Trichosanthes
cucumeroides from Japan. Not sure if this is the same species or simply a
close relative. It is described as an attractive climber with white fringed
flowers and vermilion-red egg-shaped fruits 3ins long. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much, Geoff! I've been wanting to grow them for a while.
Mrs. Pat Burns, from Chiltern Seeds, is sending the seeds before I have
even sent the money. That doesn't happen over here (NYC)-money up front
or nothing! Thanks!

Yes, but they didn't have them. GeoffAroid told me to contact
www.chilternseeds.co.uk. I did, and they have them, so I ordered them!
Thanks for your suggestion.
