IAS Symposium - Kew 2004
|
From: "Peter Boyce" p.boyce at rbgkew.org.uk> on 2001.06.19 at 16:08:46(6754)
Dear All
Apologies for the long radio silence on this. In essence the IAS
Symposium will be happening at Kew in 2004. I say in essence
because the one item yet to be finalized is how costs to the
Institute will be met, i.e., will Kew cover costs over and above those
met by Registration Fees or will we (i.e. myself and Simon Mayo)
need to begin fund raising from external sponsors to meet those
expenses. We cannot answer this until we have a decision from
the Director - the questions have been asked, we're waiting for the
reply.
So, in summary, pencil in 2004 - August - IAS Symposium - Kew
in your diaries and watch this space.
Happy Growing
Pete

Hello Mr. Boyce, my Titanum started flowering believe
it or not on last Monday the 11th. I have tried
unsuccessfully to obtain some pollen. Do you have any
leads ?. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, God
Bless.

Pete,
Thank you for the update on the International Aroid Symposium. Is there any
chance of having the symposium during one of the Royal Horticultural Society
shows? You mentioned August so I don't know how set your time table is at
this point, or what RHS events are possibly held then too. I know that the
annually phenomenal Chelsea Show is in late May, and then there is the
equally impressive Hampton Court Show in June. I think that such timing
would be very well received by many, especially for us horticulturally
inclined types to be able to see a RHS show along with attending the
symposium. I think that my preference would be echoed by many others that
are on Aroid-L that might be considering attending the symposium even though
it is three years away. A well timed symposium with the possibility of
attending a RHS show would be a further draw and inducement to attend.
Please let us know if this is possible.
Best regards, Scott

Hi Scott
Yes, we could do that. I'd probably prefer to aim for Hampton Court
(usually mid-July, by the way) which would give us a slightly longer
lead-in to the Symposium and also avoid the risk that our Hort. folk
would be tied up with Chelsea (where we often exhibit).
As I mentioned in my previous email, we're still waiting for the 'nod'
on the funding front and thus we're pretty flexible date-wise.

Title: RE: IAS Symposium - Kew 2004
Dear Pete and Simon:
It is good news that Kew will sponsor the International Aroid Conference in 2004. I believe that this is a full year ahead of when you made your initial plans. Please let me know if there is any way I can help out.
The Kew conference is bound to be a success because of the strong attraction you can provide for participants.
