Some of these tropical beasties are hardier than we expect. I have =
grown Sauromatum (yes Wilbert, Typhonium) venosum and Amorphophallus =
konjac in the garden for a number of years when I was in zone 5 =
(Napoleon, Ohio). The winter temperatures would get to -10F (-25C) or =
even lower. While I dug the tubers in the fall I always managed to miss =
some. These were in an unprotected spot and so were fully at the mercy =
of the weather. Next spring some at least (who knows how many others =
failed to survive) would emerge apparently no worse for the experience. =
Mind you, I would never trust my large tubers to the elements. I =
suspect, however, that the true cold tolerance of many of this group has =
never been tested.

paeonifolius will not survive in subzero temperatures in the ground with =
