Dear Pete=2C

Sounds just fine to me--stamps are sometimes VERY unreliable concerning the art work.
See John`s letter.

HiJulius=2C

 =3B

Sorry=2Cbut I said no such thing! I said =93Hi Marek=2C Bit stylized...myguess would be Xanthosoma rather than Alocasia...=94=2C it was Marek whosuggested Xanthosoma indica... There IS an Alocasia indica (=3D Alocasiamacrorrhiozos) but the stamp does NOT depict Alocasia macrorrhizos). My guessis that it is one of the carbohydrate crop Xanthosoma spp. That are frequentlymet with throughout the tropics=2C well away from their native Caribbean and South/CentralAmerican origins...

Dear John and Friends=2C

The illustration on this stamp=2C especially that of one leaf=2C does in factclosely resemble a non-discript species within the Neotropical genusXanthosoma=2C but we MUST keep in mind that the artist might not have been aBotanist=2C and may have been using a generalized photo or illustration of anaroid (who knows!) =3B Since there are no blooms which would have assisted indetermining =3B the precise I.D. of this plant=2C and there is no label on thestamp itself=2C Pete Boyce (perhaps in jest) suggested it might be"Xanthosoma indica''=2C a non-species if ever there was one! =3B But thenagain=2C to ramble on a little on this topic=2C there IS a named var./cultivarnamed "Alocasia amazonica''=2C a genus that does NOT occur naturallyanywhere NEAR the Amazon Basin! =3B I did the research on this name=2C todiscover that it was named by its creator (it is a hybrid) who owned anow-defunct nursery in the Miami area back in the 30`s-40`s and the Nursery`sname was "Amazon Nursery"=2C hence the name of this Asian Plant.
 =3BI came to the conclusion that the illustration on the stamp could verywell be a sp. of Alocasia=2C which is native to that area while Xanthosoma isNOT.
Good Growing=2C

Theplant has Xanthosoma written all over it=2C and aren=92t all Xanthosomas tropicalAmerican? =3B The name X. indica therefore must be an impossibility. =3BJohn.
