The thing that wouldn't die (or grow either)
This article available FREE to IAS Members with a PERSONAL login. LOGIN, REGISTER or JOIN
|
| ABSTRACT: Having been disappointed in three attempts to grow Monstera tenuis from difficult to obtain horticultural divisions, I looked forward with great anticipation to our first trip to Costa Rica, which my wife Fanny and I took in April, 1988. We had been assured that this species, among others, could be found there in abundance, in certain localities.

An annotated list of aroid publications
(Buy)
|
| ABSTRACT: Since a previous paper (Notes on aroid papers, Aroideana 7:63 1984), the following publications have been brought to my attention, through the kindness of authors or colleagues in sending reprints. As papers arrived, I put them in a pile until it became obvious that it was time to process them. No effort was made to scan current literature. As such, coverage is not exhaustive.

On the identity of Alocasia brisbanensis (F. M. Bailey) Domin
(Buy)
|
| ABSTRACT: Alocasia brisbanensis (EM. Bailey) Domin is shown to be a hitherto overlooked, highly distinctive and common Australian endemic species. It is largely extra-tropical. It is assigned to a new section within Alocasia, sect. Ozarum, primarily on the basis of its linear, often multistaminate, synandria and robustly long-pedunculate inflorescences, characters which distinguish this species from all others in the genus.

How do your aroids grow?
(Buy)
|
| ABSTRACT: My goal in this article is not to formulate one method by which to grow all aroids, but rather to give you, the reader, some idea of what other growers are doing to achieve success. I contacted both amateur and commercial growers in South Florida, Central Florida, Southern California, Missouri and Tennessee. As Jack Johnston of St. Petersburg, Florida stated, "Most of us want to know how other people. grow all those plants that look so much better than the ones we grow at home." So that is what I am attempting to do in this article.
